Are no smoking signs a legal requirement?

To answer this we have to look at updates from 2012 shared on GOV.UK website. There are no-smoking sign regulations particularly in England for businesses and vehicle owners. As of October 1, 2012, only one clear no-smoking sign is required, allowing owners to choose the size, design, and location.

Whereas the  Businesses already complying with previous rules don't need to make changes but can update or remove multiple signs if desired. The core of the update was to reduce unnecessary rules. (Part of the government's Red Tape Challenge)

So Are no smoking signs a legal requirement in Public Spaces and Workplaces? Well, a large number of  countries have strict regulations on traditional tobacco-based cigarettes. However, there are some new additions to e-cigarettes, which still need more regulatory attention.

Requirements for Installing No Smoking Signs

We have mentioned some basic requirements for the smoking sign:

  1. First Measure and mark the place you want to install it. Place it at 48 to 60 inches above the floor for proper placement.
  2. It is better to place your sign not too low on the wall or door. Place the sign in the center or at a certain level to Ensure signs are clearly visible and not blocked.
  3. Try to Replace any damaged or faded signs immediately.
  4. For smoke-free premises, A5-size signs with the non-smoking symbol must be placed at entrances.
